About me

I am Rodrigo 'Rigle' Iglesias, a telecommunication engineer and vocational trainer from Plasencia, Cáceres (Spain). I have been living in Valladolid (Spain) for 10 years now. There, I have studied a BSc in Telecommunication Engineering, specialization in Telematics and a Master's Programme in High School Teaching and Vocational Training. During my undergrad, I had an Erasmus Exchange in Ljubljana (Slovenia) for 1 year.

I have been interested in video games and technology since I was a child. If you were at my home at that time, you would have noticed it because I was either playing with my GameBoy Pocket or my computer or opening them to discover "what was inside it". In teen years, I was learning how to program my own video games for my Nintendo DS and I reverse engineered some commercial ones to fix or translate them.

Lately, I have been working on other apps and reverse engineering other video games to make my own AI. You can read more about this in the "Programming" section.

My other passion comes from music. Apart from listening to almost every genre, I was playing the piano for 3 years when I was a child. After it, I completed the elementary degree of French horn in the conservatory Garcia Matos in Plasencia. Right now, I am producing podcasts and improving my video editting skills.

Other topics I have been interested in are:

  • Nutrition and sports. I used to do karate and I am practising powerlifting nowadays.
  • Content creation. I have a podcast called "El Último Frame", available in YouTube and Spotify. I also have a personal YouTube channel.
  • Blogs. I have been blogging for more than 10 years. You can jump into it clicking the button in the main menu.
  • Photography. I do not have a "real" camera and I have been using my cellphone (Samsung Galaxy S7 / Xiaomi Mi Note 9T Pro) like it, but I am doing my best.
  • Travelling. I have always enjoyed it, but I travelled around Europe during my Erasmus Internship. I love discovering new cultures, new food and meeting new people.

Programming projects

I could say I started programming around 10 years ago when I was 15. At that time, I wanted to make my own games for the Nintendo DS, so I made some homebrews to learn and practice. I remember that one of my first ones was "Project Golden Sun DS" because the Golden Sun fanbase wanted a new game for the console. It ended up being nothing more than a program where you could move Hans around the screen, but for me, it seemed to have completed a real challenge.

Project Golden Sun DS

Romhacking and translations

Once I got into programming and I started wondering what was inside of video games, I tried to "open" them to see how they were made. I started modifying Pokémon games in order to add more trainers, to customize my experience playing them or to be able to catch every pokémon in the same cartridge. So yes, I started this journey doing some "pokehacking".

Nevertheless, the biggest project I accomplished in this ambit was the complete localization of the Nintendo DS game The World Ends With You. We opened the game, translated the text, images and even dubbed the videos in Spanish. If you want to know more about this, I made a Twitter Thread explaining it.

I also did some other translations and fixes, like:

  • The World Ends With You: If you want more information, check https://www.romhacking.net/translations/1662/.
  • Chrono Trigger DS: I worked together with the ChronoSpTeam to translate the game. More Information here: http://www.romhacking.net/translations/2251/
  • Ragnarok DS: I gave up because I did not now Japanese at all, so even if I reverse engineered it, for me it made no point to continue with it.
  • Suikoden Tierkreis: I changed the font of the game because you could confuse easily some of the letters.

In this way, the club tries to open a channel of communication between the university and the company, as well as to train the so-called soft skills of its members, so valued today by companies have so forgotten by the education system.
